Kanika Khanna, Ph.D., is a scientific program leader at the Gladstone Infectious Disease Institute, where she manages a portfolio of research projects focused on infectious diseases, including HIV, SARS-CoV-2 and other emerging viral and bacterial pathogens. She oversees cross-functional scientific programs, fostering collaboration and advancing research initiatives from strategy through execution. As a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, Khanna studied the structural basis of membrane manipulation and cell-cell fusion by bacterial pathogens. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in January 2020, where she employed novel modalities in cryo-electron microscopy to uncover the mechanisms of cell division and peptidoglycan remodeling in Bacillus subtilis and jumbo phage replication in Pseudomonas.
